The Grays are actively recruiting new players for the 2008 season. Vintage base ball is competitive, so baseball skills and good conditioning are highly desirable. Speed, good hands and strong throwing arms are particularly useful. Knowledge of, or interest in, 19th century base ball is also important and can offset other shortcomings.
Tough, skilled catchers are particulary valued in 19th century base ball.
At minimum, a player must have the constitution to survive a five or six hour double header on a hot summer day wearing wool from head to toe.
There are no formal try-outs. Interested players are encouraged to contact team captain Brian Travers and show up at 08 Schedule, held Sunday mornings from 9:00 am sharp to some time before noon at Ardoene Field in Providence.
